If you have basic Visual Basic programming skills and would like to develop professional real world web applications, then "Murach's ASP.NET Web Programming with VB.NET" is the ideal book.

The book is divided into four sections. Section one gets you off to a quick start by showing how to use the Visual Studio .NET design environment to code multi-page applications using features such as view state, session state, database retrieval, cookies, and testing/debugging your applications.

After you've grasped some of the basic skills you'll then move on to section 2 where you'll learn how to use web server controls, validation controls, managing application state, and creating user controls.

Section 3 delves into detailed coverage of ADO.NET and the web server controls used for working with database data. You'll learn how to use connection pooling, data commands, parametrized queries, caching, data views, and bound/unbound controls.

The final section covers essential advanced topics that every ASP.NET programmer needs to know. You'll learn about application security, custom server controls, e-mail, Crystal Reports, custom error pages, creating and using web services, and application deployment.
